Life is so much better when you take it slow.
»Wir haben so viele Möglichkeiten erfunden, Wege abzukürzen um noch schneller und effizienter ans Ziel zu kommen. Ich wollte eine gegenständliche Erinnerung entwerfen, die mich motiviert mir ab und zu mehr Zeit zu nehmen.«
Die Slowlex ist ein surrealistischer Gegenentwurf zur klassischen Armbanduhr und gleichzeitig ein Schmuckstück.
Die Vorlage, ein leeres Schneckengehäuse, fand Illenberger bei einem Spaziergang im Garten ihres Hauses in Italien. Das Fundstück wurde in der Kunstgießerei St. Gallen mit einem meteorologischen Scanner erfasst und per Computer in ein Uhrgehäuse verwandelt. Entstanden ist ein Object Trouvé, welches auf poetische Weise Zeit als Statussymbol erfasst. Wie so oft bei Sarah Illenbergers Arbeiten ist es dieser eine Gedanke, der eine bis dahin nicht gesehene Essenz offenbart und ein Schmunzeln auslöst.
»Die Schnecke fasziniert mich, weil sie sich nicht aus der Ruhe bringen lässt. Schon alleine sich die Zeit zu nehmen, sie bei ihrer Wanderung zu beobachten hat etwas Meditatives. Daher ist sie das perfekte Symbol, um öfter mal das Tempo rauszunehmen und innezuhalten.«

ENGSlowlex is a wristwatch for the present-minded.
The inspiration came from an empty snail shell that Illenberger discovered on a stroll in the garden of her Italian summer home. The find was then brought to the Kunstgeißerei St. Gallen, metrologically scanned and recreated as a wristwatch. The outcome is a wearable Object Trouvé, which poetically captures time as a status symbol. As is often the case in Sarah Illenberger's work, the piece is a spontaneous thought that reveals a deeper, unforeseen essence and evokes a smile.
»The snail fascinates me because it simply can't be bothered. Even just taking the time to observe it in its migration has a meditative quality to it. It’s the perfect symbol of slowing down and taking a minute to stop once in a while.«
